Season course

Venues of the Regionalliga West 2017/18

Preseason

After relegation in 2015 and two years in the league , the former Bundesliga club KFC Uerdingen 05 returned to the regional league. The TuS Erndtebrück and FC Wegberg-Beeck denied after their relegation in 2016 and direct resurgence their second season in the regional league. Westfalia Rhynern was a newcomer to the league . Rhynern (as well as the only potential successor Hammer SpVg ) was initially refused admission because the association did not accept the EVORA Arena as a venue for risky games . The club was only approved after an objection, submission of further documents and construction work on the stadium.

The reigning champions Viktoria Köln missed the leap into professional football in the two promotion games and therefore entered the regional league again.

In the opinion of the coaches, FC Viktoria Köln was the clear favorite for the championship. Almost as often the newly promoted KFC Uerdingen was named as a favorite for the title. Rot-Weiß Oberhausen and Borussia Mönchengladbach II followed a little behind, and around half of the trainers still gave them a chance for the title.

First round

The opening match between Alemannia Aachen and Borussia Mönchengladbach II took place on July 28, 2017 in Tivoli in front of 9,100 spectators. Autumn champion was the KFC Uerdingen before last year's champion Viktoria Köln.

Second half

The last game before the winter break was played on December 15, 2017. The master last season FC Viktoria Cologne wintered as the leader of the tied KFC Uerdingen 05 (both 39 points after 19 completed games). The first game after the winter break took place on February 16, 2018. The season ended on May 13, 2018. On the last day of the match, KFC Uerdingen 05 secured the championship title ahead of last year's champion Viktoria Köln. The three co-promoters of Uerdinger Erndtebrück , Wegberg-Beeck and Rhynern , however, could not hold the class. SV Rödinghausen qualified for the play-off for the first round of the DFB Cup against league champions SV Lippstadt 08 .

After the last game day

The promotion round between the champions of the Regional Football League West 2017/18 and the runner -up of the Regional Football League Southwest 2017/18 , SV Waldhof Mannheim , took place between May 24th and 27th. The KFC Uerdingen played the first leg (final score 1-0) on May 24th because of renovation work instead of in the local Grotenburg in the Duisburg Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena . The return match in Carl-Benz Stadium in Mannheim was the score at 1: 2 because of excessive usage of pyrotechnics in Mannheim block canceled and sports law procedures with 0: regarded 2nd The Uerdinger rose to the 3rd division . For the first time after 2009/10 a promoted player in the Regionalliga West achieved immediate promotion. With the rise of Uerdingen, Fifteenth Fortuna Düsseldorf II was able to keep the class.
