The 1988 Grand Prix was a world ranking tournament belonging to the 1988/89 snooker season . It was from 10 to 23 October at the Hexagon Theater in the English city of Reading held. The winner of the Rothmans sponsored tournament was Steve Davis , who defeated Alex Higgins 10: 6 in the final. The highest break was played by Dean Reynolds , in qualifying it was Joe O'Boye .

final

Davis started the final with a century break and extended his lead to a 3-0. Higgins could win a frame every now and then, but Davis was superior to him and finally led 8: 4. Higgins shortened and Davis then restored the old gap so that it was 9: 5. Higgins shortened again, but Davis eventually won the 16th frame at 70:20 and won the title.
