Irina Anatolyevna Privalova

Irina Anatoljewna Priwalowa ( Russian Ирина Анатольевна Привалова , English transcription Irina Privalova , née Sergejewa ; born November 22, 1968 in Malachowka ) is a Russian sprinter and hurdler .

For years she was considered one of the best fair-skinned sprinters in the world and still holds the indoor world records over 50 and 60 meters . At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona she won a bronze medal in the 100-meter run for the United Team of the Commonwealth of Independent States . At the 1993 World Championships in Stuttgart, she won the gold medal with the 4 x 100 meter relay . In 1994 she won gold at the European Championships over 100 and 200 meters . At the end of the year, Privaleova was voted Europe's athlete of the year . At the European Championships in 1998, she won again over 200 meters.

Towards the end of her career, she switched to longer distances and won the gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney . She also won a bronze medal with the Russian 4 x 400 meter relay .

In 2002 Privaleova became a mother for the second time and ended her active career. In July 2008, however, she made a comeback at the age of 39. However , she could not achieve her goal of qualifying for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . At the Russian Championships she finished seventh over the 200 meters and missed the final over the 100 meters.
