List of courts in the Electorate of Hesse
This list names the courts in the Electorate of Hesse .
Court organization from 1821 to 1866
With an edict of June 29, 1821, administration and justice were separated from each other in Kurhessen . Now judicial offices were responsible for the first instance jurisdiction, the administration was taken over by districts .
The highest court in the Electorate of Hesse was the Kassel Higher Appeal Court . The courts in Kassel, Hersfeld, Marburg, Fulda, Hanau, Schmalkalden and Rinteln were referred to as regional courts.
For each province a higher court was set up as a middle court:
From 1848 to 1851 there was also a higher court in Rotenburg with jurisdiction for the administrative districts of Hersfeld and Schmalkalden. On November 1, 1851, the upper courts were reduced to two (Kassel High Court and Fulda High Court). The law of October 28, 1863 summarized the individual provisions regarding the administration of justice and increased the number of higher courts back to five.
Province of Lower Hesse
The second as a judicial body of the province of Lower Hesse served the Superior Court for the Province of Lower Hesse , based in Kassel .
Schaumburg County
The court of second instance for the county of Schaumburg was the higher court for the county of Schaumburg , based in Rinteln .

In addition to the courts mentioned, there were patrimonial courts , university courts and military courts . From 1851 to 1863 there was also a disciplinary court based in Kassel.
