Honorary citizen
The city of Apolda has granted honorary citizenship to 15 people since 1871 . It is the highest award the city bestows. It honors personalities who have rendered outstanding services to the city. The honorary citizenship expires with the death of the honored person. The honorary citizenship conferred on Adolf Hitler and Wilhelm Frick on April 20, 1933 by the board of directors of the Thuringian City Association were revoked by an order of October 15, 1945. In the period from 1939 to 1945 granting honorary citizenship rights was prohibited.
