Coyotepec is a municipality in the Mexican state of México . It belongs to the Zona Metropolitana del Valle de México , the metropolitan region around Mexico City . The seat of the municipality and its largest place is the eponymous Coyotepec , the second largest place in the municipality is La Planada . The municipality had 39,030 inhabitants in 2010, its area is 47.8  km² .

Coyotepec is located in the northeast of the state of México, about 30 km north of Mexico City.

The municipality borders on the municipalities Huehuetoca , Zumpango , Teoloyucan and Tepotzotlán .
