It belongs to the Arrondissement Compiègne and the canton Estrées-Saint-Denis (until 2015: canton Ressons-sur-Matz ). The inhabitants are called Ressontois .

Ressons-sur-Matz is about 90 kilometers north-northeast of Paris . Ressons-sur-Matz is surrounded by the neighboring communities of La Neuville-sur-Ressons in the north, Margny-sur-Matz in the east, Marquéglise and Antheuil-Portes in the south, Gournay-sur-Aronde in the southwest and Cuvilly in the west.
