Saint-Jean-aux-Bois is a northern French municipality with 315 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Oise in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement Compiègne and the canton Compiègne-2 (until 2015: canton Compiègne-Sud-Est ). The inhabitants are called Les Solitaires (during the French Revolution the village was called La Solitude ).

Saint-Jean-aux-Bois is located about seven kilometers southeast of Compiègne in the middle of the Compiègne forest . Saint-Jean-aux-Bois is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Compiègne in the north and north-west, Vieux-Moulin in the north-east, Pierrefonds in the east, Morienval in the south, Orrouy in the south and south-west, Saint-Sauveur in the west and south-west and Lacroix-Saint- Ouen to the west.
