Special occurrences
In the game Galatasaray and Eskişehirspor on matchday 24, there were riots during the game. This incident was one of the first of its kind in Turkish football. In the 60th minute, Eskişehirspor's Fethi Heper pushed the ball into the penalty area and was then separated from the ball by a slight lazy attack by Galatasaray defender Ekrem Günalp . The ball fell in front of Burhan İpek , who stormed out . This pulled off directly on the opposing goal. The ball then hit Günalp's hand or was stopped by this with his hand. After the referee Nejat Şener assessed this position with a corner kick, there were violent protests. In the 47th minute, the referee had a similar position, in which a shot by Heper was stopped by Aydın Güleş by hand, allowed to continue. This then ended in an office where Galatasaray took a 1-0 lead. In this position, the referee had already drawn the Eskişehirspor players and spectators to himself. After the position in the 60th minute against Eskişehirspor was evaluated, this led to violent protests from the Eskişehirspor players. This circumstance escalated the situation. Some Eskişehirspor fans jumped onto the field and physically attacked the referee and some Galatasaray players like Günalp. After these developments, the referee could only be saved in the dressing room with the protection of some Eskişehirspor players like Mümin Özkasap . They got into a scuffle with their own fans and saved the referee. Eskişehirspor blamed the referee for the events a day later. Galatasaray reported that his two players, Muzaffer Sipahi and Tuncay Temeller, had only been spared knife attacks by the intervention of Talat Özkarslı and that Olcay Başarır was injured by a rock fall . The trade press confirmed the wrong decision of the referee from the 60th minute by means of video or photo evidence, but could not certify Günalp's intention with regard to the handball.
The Turkish Football Association rated the game 3-0 in favor of Galatasaray after an investigation into the incidents. In addition, Eskişehir Ataturk Stadium was closed until May 16, 1971. As a result, Eskişehirspor had to play its games scheduled up to this date in other stadiums. The association also stated that harsh penalties should actually be provided, but the positive attitude of Eskişehirspor players and Eskişehirspor officials during the incidents were taken into account as mitigating circumstances.
