The Segunda División 1965/66 was the 35th season of the second highest Spanish football league . It began on September 5, 1965 and ended on April 3, 1966. Between May 15 and 29, 1966, the relegation matches were played. Champions were Deportivo La Coruña and Hércules Alicante .
Before the season
The 32 teams were divided into two groups of 16 teams each. The two group winners were promoted directly to the Primera División . The two runners-up played against the 13th and 14th of the Primera División for promotion.
The last two clubs in each group were relegated directly, while the teams in positions 13 and 14 fought relegation against relegation.
Relegated from La Liga took Real Murcia , Levante , Real Oviedo and Deportivo La Coruna part. From the Tercera División came CD Badajoz , CD Condal , UD Lérida and Rayo Vallecano .
