history

The place was created in 1919, when a Martin Rombach built a house for himself in what is still remote today. The area around the residential area was known colloquially as Switzerland even before the settlement was founded due to its ridges and incised valleys . Rombach was inspired by this name, but decided on the equally romanticizing name of Tyrol , which was officially recognized as the official name of the community of Witzhelden at his request.

In 1928 the property was purchased by Fritz Schwartz and his wife Martha as a retirement home, who lived there until 1960. Fritz Schwartz was the personal driver of Kaiser Wilhelm II until his abdication in 1919 .

On January 1, 1975, the municipality of Witzhelden was incorporated with Tyrol in Leichlingen.
