history

The place name Scharweg is one of the culture names and indicates a path on site. The Topographia Ducatus Montani map from 1715 shows a farm under the name Scherweg . In the 18th century, the place belonged to the parish of Leichlingen in the Bergisches Amt Miselohe . The topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 and the Prussian first survey from 1844 record the place as Scharrweg and Scharweg .

In 1815/16 six people lived in the village. In 1832 Scharweg belonged to the parish Witzhelden of the Burscheid mayor . The place, which was categorized as a court town according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , had two residential buildings and two agricultural buildings at that time. At that time, nine people lived in the village, all of whom were Protestant.

Due to the municipal code for the Rhine province, the parish of Witzhelden received the status of a municipality in 1845, left the Burscheid mayor and formed its own mayor's office from 1850 onwards . In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province in 1885, five houses with 17 inhabitants are given. In 1895 the place had five houses with 20 inhabitants, in 1905 four houses and 24 inhabitants.

From the 1930s to the 1970s there was a water tower in Scharweg . On January 1, 1975, the municipality of Witzhelden was incorporated into Leichlingen with Scharweg.
