Grünscheid is a scattered settlement in the city of Leichlingen (Rhineland) in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis .

Location and description

The area of ​​the scattered settlement Grünscheid lies northeast of the center of Leichling on the Leichlinger plateau on the upper reaches of the Schmerbach and the Roderbach , both tributaries of the World Heritage Bach . The main settlement is on Landesstraße 359 between the main town and the high village of Witzhelden , which runs through the area. Several smaller settlement areas and residential areas with no proper names are distributed over an area of ​​around 100 hectares, mainly northeast to southeast of the main settlement. A network of several branching side streets on both sides of the main road bears the name Grünscheid .

The scattered settlement is surrounded by the places Roderhof , Balkerberg , Neuwinkel , Sankt Heribert , Höfchenstal , Rödel , Bröden , Kempen , Hohlenweg , Dierath and Pohligshof .

The Grünscheid settlement area did not emerge until the second half of the 19th century. The plateau was previously forested throughout, but was already known as Grünscheid in the 18th century. The topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 describes the forest area covering the entire plateau between the Wupper and the Weltersbach as the Grünscheider Forest , the municipality map from 1830 as the Grünscheider Busch and the Prussian original from 1844 as the Grosser Grünscheid .

In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province in 1885, 37 houses with 218 inhabitants are given for Grünscheid. In 1895 the place had 43 houses with 212 inhabitants, in 1905 37 houses and 207 inhabitants.
