history

Brachhausen was first mentioned as de Brachusen in 1218/31 , then again in 1389. The place name refers to a wasteland . The map Topographia Ducatus Montani from 1715 shows a farm under the name Braghusen . In the 18th century, the place belonged to the parish Witzhelden in the Bergisches Amt Miselohe . The topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 and the Prussian first survey from 1844 both record the place as Brachhausen .

In 1815/16 there were 48 people living in the village. In 1832 Brachhausen belonged to the parish Witzhelden of the Burscheid mayor . The place, which was categorized as a court town according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , had nine residential buildings and 14 agricultural buildings at the time. At that time there were 42 people living in the village, all of whom were Protestant.

Due to the municipal code for the Rhine province, the parish of Witzhelden received the status of a municipality in 1845, left the Burscheid mayor and formed its own mayor's office from 1850 onwards . In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province in 1885, eight houses with 58 inhabitants are given. In 1895 the place had nine houses with 52 inhabitants, in 1905 six houses and 42 inhabitants.

On January 1, 1975, the municipality of Witzhelden was incorporated into Leichlingen with Brachhausen.
