Herscheid , called Flamersheim until the 16th century , is a village in Leichlingen (Rhineland) in the Rheinisch-Bergisch district that emerged from a manor .

Location and description

The place is northwest of Witzhelden at the intersection of the state roads L359 and L427 on the edge of the plateau, which drops to the north in the nature reserve Wupperhang with side depths and the Wupper north of Witzhelden and Leichlingen steeply to the Lower Wuppertal . The Herzbach rises in Herscheid and flows into the Wupper in a deep Siefen near the Rüdenstein . The foothills of the plateau towards the valley area are called Wupperberge .

Herscheid is divided into three places , Oberherscheid, Mittelherscheid and Unterherscheid. Neighboring places are next to Witzhelden Claasholz , Oberbüscherhof , Bechhausen , Orth , Wolfstall , Raderhof , Scharweg , Flamerscheid , Sieferhof and Krähwinkel .

history

The place was called Flamersheim until the 16th century . It was first mentioned in 1352 as Vlamersheym , in the 15th century as Flandersheim . With the new owner of the estate, a Johann von Heßscheid , the name was changed to Herscheid in the 16th century. " Flammersheim, itzo gnant Heßscheidt " is noted in the documents. As with the neighboring town of Flamerscheid, Flamer goes back to the personal name Fladmar .

Herscheid was a manor in the early modern period. This owned a mansion enclosed by a moat, a courtyard , the last remains of which are said to have been removed in 1953. The noble families Hall, von Driesch and the historian Henricus Flandrian are said to have owned the estate .

The map Topographia Ducatus Montani from 1715 shows four farms under the name Hetsched . In the 18th century, the place belonged to the parish of Leichlingen in the Bergisches Amt Miselohe . The topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 shows the two residential areas Ober- and Unterherscheid, but lists both together as Herscheid . On the Prussian first recording from 1844, Ober- and Unterherscheid are inscribed separately from one another.

In 1815/16 there were 144 people living in the village. In 1832 Herscheid belonged to the parish of Witzhelden of the Burscheid mayor . The place, categorized as a village according to the statistics and topography of the administrative district of Düsseldorf , had 29 houses, a factory or mill and 60 agricultural buildings at that time. At that time, 156 people lived in the village, three of them Catholic and 153 Protestant.

Due to the municipal code for the Rhine province, the parish of Witzhelden received the status of a municipality in 1845, left the Burscheid mayor and formed its own mayor's office from 1850 onwards . In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province in 1885, 40 houses with 194 inhabitants are given. In 1895 the place had 39 houses with 186 inhabitants, in 1905 31 houses and 144 inhabitants.

On January 1, 1975, the municipality of Witzhelden was incorporated into Leichlingen with Herscheid.
