Braking is a locality in the city of Leichlingen (Rhineland) in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis . Today, the location is no longer perceptible as an independent living space, but part of the southwestern suburb of Leichlingen.

Location and description

Brakes is located southwest of the city center at the same Leichlicher road brakes . The settlement core of the residential area has merged into the closed residential and commercial development, the entire local area is now part of the Leichlingen core town. The Gruiten – Köln-Mülheim railway runs east of the village, and the former L288 state road to the west.

Neighboring places, mostly those in the southwest and southern suburbs of Leichlingen, are Kaltenberg , Sandberg , Kellerhansberg , Bockstiege , Windfahne , Zwei Eichen , Schraffenberg , Brückerfeld , Scheeresberg and Bahnhof .

The topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1825 lists the place as a brake and the Prussian first recording from 1844 as a brake . The Leichlinger municipality map from 1830 shows the place as Bremmen . From the Prussian new admission in 1892, the location is regularly recorded as brakes on measuring table sheets at the end of the 20th century .

In 1815/16 the place had 24 inhabitants, in 1830 26 people lived in the place categorized as a hamlet . In 1832, Bremsen belonged to the mayor's office in Leichlingen . The place, categorized as a courtyard town according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , had three residential buildings and two agricultural buildings at that time. At that time, 21 residents lived in the place, six of them Catholic and 15 Protestant denominations. In 1867 the Gruiten – Cologne – Mülheim railway line was opened near the town.

The municipality and estate district statistics of the Rhine Province list Bremsen in 1871 with one house and five residents. In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province in 1885, two houses with ten residents are given. In 1895 the place had two houses with twelve inhabitants, in 1905 two houses with nine inhabitants.

Brakes had a separate location until the second half of the 20th century. In the course of time the residential and commercial development densified and the place merged into the Leichlinger core town.
