Waltenrath is a residential area in the town of Leichlingen (Rhineland) in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis .

Location and description

Waltenrath is located north of the Leichlinger town center on the Leichlinger plateau on Landesstraße 359. Neighboring towns are Roderhof , Schmerbach , Wachholder , Scheidt , Neuland , Hülstrung , Bergerhof , Weide , Bennert , Diepenbroich , Oberschmitte , Ellenbogen , Buntenbach , Bechlenberg , Pohligshof and Dierath .

Waltenrath was first mentioned in 1327 as Waldenrode . The place name has the clearing toponym -rath , combined with forest . The meaning of the place name is clearing of the forest . The estate belonged to the Deutz Abbey (Cologne) and the Cologne city archive contains "Lease letters and reversals on the Waldrather Hof zu Leichlingen" from 1597 to 1760. The Topographia Ducatus Montani map from 1715 shows the farm under the name Waterhof . In the 18th century, the place belonged to the parish of Leichlingen in the Bergisches Amt Miselohe . The topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 and the Prussian first survey from 1844 both record the place as Waltenrath .

In 1815/16 ten people lived in the village. In 1832 Waltenrath belonged to the mayor's office in Leichlingen . The place, which was categorized as arable property according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , had a residential house and three agricultural buildings at that time. At that time there were seven people living in the village, one of which was Catholic and six Protestant.
