history

Wietsche was first mentioned in a document in 1287 as Withse , and in 1590 as in the Witschen . The name is derived from an old river name of the Murbach, as are the names of the Burscheider towns of Ober- and Unterwietsche in the upper reaches of the Wersbach , the largest tributary of the Murbach. The etymology of the water's name is * Wítisa or * Hwítisa , root word for as. Hwît , ahd. ( H ) wîz (= white ).

The map Topographia Ducatus Montani from 1715 shows the court with three courtyards under the name Wischen . In the 18th century, the place belonged to the parish of Leichlingen in the Bergisches Amt Miselohe . The topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 lists the farm as Wietsche , the Prussian first survey from 1844 as Witsche .

In 1815/16 the place had 86 inhabitants. In 1832 Wietsche belonged to the mayor's office in Leichlingen . The place, which was categorized as a village according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , had 19 residential buildings, two factories or mills and 23 agricultural buildings at that time. At that time, 105 residents lived in the village, 33 of them Catholic and 72 Protestant.

In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province in 1885, 21 houses with 102 inhabitants are given. In 1895 the place had 23 houses with 110 inhabitants, in 1905 20 houses and 90 inhabitants.
