Sandberg is a location in the town of Leichlingen (Rhineland) in the Rheinisch-Bergisch district that emerged from a court .

Location and description

Sandberg is located on the former route of the state road L288, which is also called Förstchen in this section , at the level of the side streets Am Sandberg and An den Zweieichen on the western edge of Leichlingen on the city limits of Langenfeld (Rhineland) . The name Sandberg of the village, which was still independent in the first half of the 20th century, can only be found in the street name; the place of origin is the closed residential and commercial development.

Federal Motorway 3 runs west of Sandberg . In between is the Riedbachaue nature reserve , where the Galkhauser Bach rises. To the north of Sandberg lies the Förstchen residential area on the former state road , and Trompete to the south . The Förstchen residential area borders the village to the northwest, and the Schnugsheide residential area to the southeast .

Other neighboring towns, mostly those in the western suburbs of Leichlingen, are Scheeresberg , Brückerfeld , Bremsen , Zwei Eichen , Rothenberg , Rehborn and Schraffenberg on Leichlinger and Hapelrath , Furth , Virneburg and Krecklenberg on Langerfeld's urban area.

history

The name Sandberg goes back to the Leichlinger Sandberge , which were completely removed in this area. The place was on Sandstrasse , an old road from Aufderhöhe to Opladen . The topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 and the Prussian first survey from 1844 show the place unlabeled, as does the Leichling community map from 1830.

In 1832 Sandberg belonged to the mayor's office in Leichlingen . The place, which was categorized as a court town according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , had three residential buildings and two agricultural buildings at the time. At that time there were 20 people living in the village, six of them Catholic and 14 Protestant.

In the municipality lexicon for the province of Rhineland in 1885 eight houses with 44 inhabitants are given. In 1895 the place had eight houses with 42 inhabitants, in 1905 two houses and 20 inhabitants.

From the middle of the 20th century, the gaps in the residential and commercial development with the neighboring residential areas were closed and Sandberg became part of the western suburb of Leichlingen.
