The Paris V University or Paris Descartes University was one of the Paris universities . It had its headquarters in the Latin Quarter , but had nine other sites in and around Paris . The state university, founded in 1971, was named after the French philosopher and scientist René Descartes and had around 38,000 students.

Since the beginning of 2019, the university has merged with the University of Paris VII to form the Université de Paris .

The university had a total of 10 faculties. Its medical school was the largest of its kind in France.
