Mairie Walbach

Walbach is a French commune with 904 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Colmar-Ribeauvillé and the canton of Wintzenheim .

geography

The municipality of Walbach is about ten kilometers west of Colmar on the left bank of the Fecht . The Fechttal in the Vosges is also known as the Münstertal (after the town of Munster above Walbach). The municipality is part of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park .

Over two thirds of the municipality is covered by forest. The Walbach-La Forge stop on the Colmar-Metzeral route is on the right-hand side of the Fecht in the Wintzenheim district of La Forge.

Neighboring communities of Walbach are Labaroche in the north, Turckheim and Zimmerbach in the northeast, Wintzenheim in the southeast and Wihr-au-Val in the southwest.

history

From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Walbach belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Colmar district in the Upper Alsace district .
