Amecameca is a municipality in the Mexican state of México . It belongs to the Zona Metropolitana del Valle de México , the metropolitan region around Mexico City . The seat of the municipality and largest place in the municipality is Amecameca de Juárez , the next largest places are San Pedro Nexapa and San Antonio Zoyatzingo . The municipality had 48,421 inhabitants in 2010, its area is 190 km² .
geography
Amecameca is located in the east of the state of Mexico, 45 km southwest of Mexico City.
The municipality borders in the west on the Municipios Ayapango and Juchitepec , in the south on the Municipios Atlautla and Ozumba , in the east on the state of Puebla and in the north on Tlalmanalco .
history
In 1936, the last ruling prince of the Principality of Schaumburg Lippe, Adolf II , died with his wife in a plane crash in the municipality of Amecameca.
