The Danish national soccer team took part in the Olympic Games in London for the first time in 1908 and finished second there. Two years earlier, a Copenhagen city selection had won the gold medal at the 1906 interludes . In the following years, top places were also occupied, for example second place again in 1912, third place in 1948 and second place for the last time in 1960. Since the senior national team was an amateur team until the 1980s, it was able to participate in contrast to the senior national teams of other Western associations. The games that took place during this period are therefore rated differently by FIFA and DBU. Only when professionals were used in the senior national team and they were then able to qualify for European and World Championships did they no longer take part in qualifying for the Olympic Games, even if the amateur conditions were relaxed in 1988. From the 1990s, an age limit was introduced and qualification took place via the U-21 European Championships . Denmark has qualified twice since then, most recently for the 2016 games in Rio de Janeiro . There the players - with the exception of four older players - can be 23 years old.
