FDGB Cup 1981/82

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the football season 1981/1982 the competition for the FDGB football cup was held for the 31st time .

75 teams took part in the competition. The competition began with a qualifying round with six GDR league players . The 15 district cup winners, 55 teams from the second-rate GDR league and the two league relegated teams from the 1980/81 season had qualified for the first main round. All games were played until the decision was made, possibly after extra time or after a penalty shoot-out .

After an intermediate round, for which 36 winners from the first main round were drawn, the 14 upper league teams were added. With Hansa Rostock , Chemie Buna Schkopau and Sachsenring Zwickau, three of them were immediately eliminated from the competition, as were the last two district cup winners, ASG Vorwärts Dessau II and TSG Chemie Markkleeberg . In contrast, the four GDR league players KWO Berlin , Chemie Böhlen , Vorwärts Stralsund and BSG Motor Werdau reached the second round.

Last year's cup finalists, 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig and Vorwärts Frankfurt / O met in the round of 16 . each other, Frankfurt won their home game 3-2. With the Leipzigers also the remaining GDR league teams were eliminated. Last year's champions BFC Dynamo landed the highest victory of the quarter-finals with 5: 3 over FC Karl-Marx-Stadt and also had 2: 0 in the semifinals over forward Frankfurt / O. easy game at home. As surely drew Dynamo Dresden after a 4: 1 over Energie Cottbus in the final one. After 1971 there was a pure dynamo duel in the final for the second time.

Match report

The 31st final for the FDGB soccer cup took place four days before the end of the soccer championship. At that time, the BFC were in first place and Dynamo Dresden in third place in the league table. While Dresden had to do without important players such as Dörner and Döschner in its eighth cup final and Schade, Pilz and Häfner went into the game battered, the Berliners were able to compete with the best line-up. In addition, Dresden's coach Prautzsch took the risk of letting the 34-year-old Heidler storm the left wing, “to let him experience such a high point at the end of his long career”.

Accordingly, Dresden started the encounter uneasily and tried counter-football at first. The BFC was able to take the initiative right from the start and built up a lot of pressure with its strong midfield, boosted by Ernst and Backs. Already in the first twenty minutes the Berlin team had three good chances to score, but they were either hastily given or thwarted by the Dresden goalkeeper Jakubowski. In this phase the embarrassment-stopper couple Schmuck / Trautmann proved to be a stabilizing factor for the Dresdeners. They had their first compelling goal opportunity in the 19th minute when Minge forced goalkeeper Rudwaleit to do a brilliant act with a violent shot. Given the defensive rows on both sides, the first half remained goalless.

Only six minutes after the restart, the BFC defense allowed itself to be inattentive for a moment. She was surprised by a combination between Heidler and Pilz, so that Terletzki could only save at the expense of a foul. Rudwaleit could only fist off the due free kick, Schmuck reacted lightning fast, headed to Trautmann, whose direct shot was untenable. The BFC responded with a sustained assault, in which the defense also intervened. The Berlin team increased the pace once again and thus got numerous corner kicks. In the 61st and 82nd minutes, Backs and Trieloff only hit the gate. In the 85th minute, the efforts of the BFC team were finally rewarded. Trieloff headed a corner kick from Terletzki to Riediger, who was also able to overcome Jakubowski with a header. In the last minutes of regular time, the BFC tried hard to force the decision, and with Troppa's volley in the 89th minute there was a last chance, but noon was thwarted at the last moment.

Once again Ernst had the winning goal for the BFC in the 7th minute of extra time, but failed because of the excellent reaction of the Dresden goalkeeper. After Dresden's center forward Minge hastily missed a clear scoring opportunity, the extension, in which the BFC visibly reduced, brought no more decision. In the penalty shoot-out, Dresden goalkeeper Jakubowski became the hero of the day when he flew into the right corner with Backs' shot. Since his teammates met everyone afterwards, Dynamo Dresden left the field as the winner and was able to celebrate his fourth cup win.
