The ECDC Memmingen is an ice hockey club from Memmingen that has been participating in ice hockey games since 1999. It is the successor to the former Memmingen ice hockey clubs SC Memmingen and EHC Memmingen. The club is currently playing as ECDC Memmingen Indians in the third highest German league, the Oberliga Süd . In the 2016/17 season, on the occasion of the club's 25th anniversary, the ECDC became Bayernliga champions for the first time and celebrated the greatest success in club history to date. Shortly thereafter, the league promotion succeeded.

The women's team has been playing in the women's ice hockey Bundesliga since 1998 . Between 2016 and 2019, the team became German champions three times . In 2017 the team won the international EWHL Super Cup .

The club's home games are played in the Memmingen ice rink on Hühnerberg (capacity: 3650 seats).

The Schlittschuhclub Memmingen, founded on 30 November 1956 appeared in the higher category, Hockey, when he made the hockey league Bayern in the Regionalliga Süd 1983/84 and 1984/85 nachrückte in the league. When the club was able to play in the ice rink in Memmingen, which was completed in December 1987, in 1987/88 , after winning the championship in the southern group and the German regional league championship, they were promoted to the Oberliga Süd again .

After the bankruptcy of the SC, the ice hockey club Memmingen, founded on March 10, 1994, began playing in the Bavarian regional league - the lowest division - and immediately rose to the next higher division, the Bavarian regional league. The sporting goal, the ice hockey Bayern league, was missed by a narrow margin, but the team moved up into the league due to the waiver of EV Berchtesgaden .

In the spring of 1999 the EHC succeeded in the qualification playoffs for the Regionalliga Süd against the EHC Klostersee the promotion to the Regionalliga Süd 1999/2000 .

When the Regionalliga Süd was abolished for the 2002/03 season, the EHC moved up to the Oberliga Süd 2002/03 . The license for the club was still managed, but after the end of the season an application for bankruptcy had to be filed . ECDC Memmingen

The ECDC Memmingen was founded on July 19, 1992 as a Fieselverein ( street hockey ) and played for seven years in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga of the German Street Hockey Association. The ECDC Memmingen ice hockey team, nicknamed "Indians", began playing in the Bavarian regional league, the lowest division, in autumn 1999 and was immediately promoted to the Bavarian regional league. After the end of the game operations of the EHC, the ECDC took on the youth and the women's team of the EHC, changed the name from Elite Club Dynamo Chiemsee to Eisclub Die Coyoten and tried to get promoted to the ice hockey Bayern league, but it was not until the summer of 2005 sovereign master succeeded.

The club had its greatest successes in this division in the 2012/13 season as third place and in 2013/14 as BEL runners-up. In 2016/17, the Indians secured the title of Bayern League champion and promotion to the league for the first time .

Women ice hockey

After the club had to withdraw from the Bundesliga to the Bayernliga several times in the 1990s, it managed to establish itself seriously in the league in the 2000s. After consistently better placements, the runner-up title was achieved in the 2011/12 , 2012/13 and 2014/15 seasons . After a total of four silver medals in the women's DEB Cup, the cup was won for the first time in 2013 after beating champions ESC Planegg . In March 2016, the ECDC women's team won the German championship for the first time and the DEB Cup again a week later. In 2018 and 2019 the team won the championship again.

Memmingen has been taking part in the EWHL Super Cup since 2012 . In 2017 you could win the competition.

80% of the players came from their own youth in 2014/15, 13 players from the first team were part of the extended group of the women's national team . Four of them took part in the Olympic Games in Sochi.

offspring

Ex-national team captain Jan Benda has been largely responsible for the youth work of the Memmingen team since 2015. The coaching team is completed by various players, ex-players and other volunteer junior coaches who are employed by the Indians.

For the 2014/15 season, around 220 children (including ice hockey school) pursued their hobby at ECDC Memmingen and compete in seven registered junior classes for the Indians. These are divided into juniors (regional league), youth (Bavarian league), schoolchildren (Bavarian league), boys (registration class B), small pupils (registration class B), small pupils (registration class A) and small pupils U8.

In addition, there is an ice hockey school for children who are still too young to take part in games, which has been very well received.

The ice rink at Hühnerberg in Memmingen was opened as an open natural ice stadium on February 17, 1963 and replaced by an artificial ice stadium on December 28, 1969, before the ice stadium was inaugurated on December 4, 1987 (the first game took place on December 20, 1969). A year earlier, around 1,500 spectators were present per game. In the play-offs alone, over 2500 spectators were welcomed on average. The last game in front of a full house in Memmingen took place in the 2013/14 season. The second final game against rival Sonthofen was completely sold out with 3600 spectators.

Fan clubs

The Mouse City Clan group has been active for several years. In addition to supporting the team, this grouping is responsible for all buses to the away games, choreographies, fan articles and ticket sales.

Others

Since 2014, the opening game of the Bavarian Ice Hockey League (BEL) has been the so-called Teddy Bear Toss , in which fans of the Indians throw plush toys onto the ice surface. All cuddly toys will be donated to an aid organization. GEFRO is the main sponsor of the ECDC Memmingen ice hockey club.
