The Cesta I. triedy 63 ( Slovak for '1st order street 63'), I / 63 for short , is a 1st order street in Slovakia . It is located in the south-west of the country and connects the Slovak capital Bratislava with the mostly Hungarian-speaking cities of Dunajská Streda , Komárno and Štúrovo . It runs almost parallel to the Danube flowing south . It is part of the European route 575 between Bratislava and Veľký Meder .

course

The I / 63 starts at a junction in the Ružinov district of Bratislava with the I / 61 road and after a few kilometers reaches the junction with the D1 motorway before it leaves the capital in the Podunajské Biskupice district and heads south-east. Through the flat landscape of the Great Schüttinsel , it reaches the small town of Šamorín before bypassing Dunajská Streda to the south. Shortly before Veľký Meder , the E 575 branches off to Győr . From about Zlatná na Ostrove , the road now turns east and copies the Danube. In Komárno there are branches to Hungary ( Komárom ) as well as to the north to Nitra . Here the road crosses the river Waag shortly before it flows into the Danube. On the rest of the route there are no towns as far as Štúrovo , while the landscape is more slightly hilly. The road ends at the Maria Valeria Bridge in Štúrovo, which leads to the Hungarian city of Esztergom .

expansion

Due to chronic congestion, a 4.5 km long section on the Ulica Svornosti street in the Podunajské Biskupice district of Bratislava to the city limits shortly before Rovinka was upgraded to the 2 + 1 system in a EUR 3.8 million construction project in late summer 2011, two lanes driving into town. Until the construction of the R7 expressway , which will replace the I / 63 to Holice, this construction measure should at least partially improve the traffic situation in the southeast of Bratislava and the surrounding communities.

Otherwise, I / 63 within Bratislava and partly in Komárno has at least four lanes, mostly without a median.

On July 19, 2020, the I / 63 from the Podunajské Biskupice junction on the city limits of Bratislava to the Holice junction in front of Dunajská Streda was replaced as the main artery by the D4 motorway or the R7 expressway. The remaining part of the R7 expressway in the urban area of Bratislava is due to be completed in summer 2021.
