List of national roads in Switzerland
The list of national roads in Switzerland leads all national roads of Switzerland on. National roads are all those roads for which the federal government pays for the financing, operation, maintenance and expansion. The Federal Roads Office (“Astra”) is responsible. Depending on the stage of development, this includes national motorways , national motorways and national main roads . The reason for inclusion in the list of national roads is the importance of a road link for the whole of Switzerland.
At the end of 2017, the Swiss national road network measured a total of 1,854.7 kilometers. The network resolution of the Federal Council of 1960 provides for 1,892.5 kilometers. This means that 37.8 kilometers are still missing until the so-called network completion. In 2017, 14.3 kilometers were opened, on the Transjurane, which was thus completed, and in the Biel area.
In the road system of Switzerland , the national roads form a special property class alongside cantonal, communal and private roads. As of 2020, Switzerland will have 26 national highways marked with N signatures (N1-N29). However, these signatures do not appear in the everyday picture of the streets, since the signaling of the Swiss streets takes place based on the state of construction. The state of development results in the classification of all roads into motorways, motorways, main roads and secondary roads. Based on the pure number of the national roads (N number), it is therefore not possible to identify the state of development of the national road, i.e. whether it is a motorway, a motorway or a main road.

Austria
Even after decades of planning, there is still no direct motorway connection from the Swiss A1 / A13 to the Austrian A14 . Border traffic flows through the Austrian villages of Höchst , Fußach , Hard , Bregenz and Lustenau or the Swiss Diepoldsau , depending on the destination . After several failed projects, the route decision for the construction of the S18 Bodensee Schnellstrasse is to be made in Austria in 2020 . The approx. 8 kilometer long road will cost around EUR 600 million and lead from the stub that has been in existence for over 50 years at the A1 exit St. Margrethen No. 86 via Höchst and Dornbirn to the A14. The customs office will be built on Swiss territory.
Principality of Liechtenstein
The Principality of Liechtenstein does not have its own motorways or motorways. Bridges over the Alpine Rhine lead into the Principality from several connections on the Swiss A13 .
