The Segunda División 1959/60 was the 29th season of the second highest Spanish football league . It began on September 13, 1959 and ended on April 17, 1960. The relegation games were played between May 22 and June 26, 1960. Champions were Real Santander and RCD Mallorca .
Before the season
The 32 teams were divided into two groups of 16 teams each. The two group winners were promoted directly to the Primera División . The two runners-up played against the 13th and 14th of the Primera División for promotion.
The last two clubs in each group were relegated directly, while the teams in positions 13 and 14 fought relegation against relegation.
Relegated from La Liga took Real Gijón and Celta Vigo in part. From the Tercera División came Cultural Leonesa , RCD Mallorca , CD Mestalla , CD Ourense and Recreativo Huelva .
