    The 2012 US presidential election in Texas took place on November 6, 2012 as part of the 2012 United States presidential election , which all 50 states and Washington, DC participated in. The voters in Texas elected 38 electors to vote for the president and vice president.

    Mitt Romney received 57.17% of the vote in Texas and won the state's 38 electors. Barack Obama received 41.38% of the vote. As in previous elections, President Obama and the Democrats won the heavily populated urban counties like Austin , El Paso , Dallas , San Antonio and Houston , but the Republicans in the rural counties gained an overwhelming majority and were therefore able to outvote the urban counties.

    Nationwide, however, Barack Obama was able to prevail against his challenger. Obama received 51.06% of the votes and 332 electors, Mitt Romney 47.21% of the votes and 206 electors.
