Weapon ring
A weapon ring is a working group of striking student associations at one or more university locations , which serves to jointly clarify questions regarding the carrying out of lengths, the student fencing with sharp weapons.
history
In the 19th century there were the senior citizens' convents of the corps and the deputy convents of the fraternities as local amalgamations of striking student associations.
After years of negotiations, on July 15, 1914, the Kösener Seniors Convents Association (KSCV), the Representative Convent (VC), the German Landsmannschaft (DL) and the German Burschenschaft (DB) concluded the Marburg Agreement for the “purpose of combating Real injuries and elimination of disrepute ”. This agreement is considered to be the first cross-association agreement of its kind and, among other things, formed the basis for the first local cross-association arms rings.
Explanation
Striking associations, especially those that are dutiful, are dependent on finding opponents of equal value (counterparts) for their members who are not members of their own association or of a friendly association. The search for and negotiation of the timpani for a measure is carried out by the responsible fencing officers or conseniores of the relevant connections at the regular weapon ring meeting. To compare the fencing performance of the timpani there is a special evaluation system in many weapon rings with which the performance (technical skills, physical constitution) can be shown. In this way, the selection of suitable counter-timpani edges is possible.
If enough lengths have been agreed, a class day is scheduled in a suitable drum room, where these lengths are fought. In some federal German as well as in all Austrian university cities so-called determination mensuras, i.e. by agreement, generally take place individually, as required and are only common among foxes . In these weapon rings, the usual shape of the scale represents the personal requirement.
Weapon ring meetings and break days are organized and hosted by the fencer of the association presiding over the weapon ring. The presidium in a weapon ring changes semester by semester, so that each connection is entrusted with the chairmanship at certain time intervals.
Each weapon ring has its own fencing comment . This means that the regulations at each university location, sometimes even in different weapon rings in the same place, sometimes differ considerably - for example with regard to the type of club , the number of gears per length, the number of blows per course, the rules for the strike and the corresponding commands, the rules of application for protective weapons, etc. For example, fencing at another place of study or a change of place of study may require fencing.
If a connection covers a game in a foreign weapon ring, it is customary to submit weapon protection to a member association that represents the external connection to the weapon ring.
In many larger cities there is more than one gun ring. This may be due to a lack of trust in connections with another type of connection or another umbrella organization. So it is often the case that corps would rather fight with each other and their own Consenioren -Convent establish if there is enough place at the relevant Corps. This is the case for example in Aachen, Hanover, Darmstadt, Stuttgart, Munich, Göttingen, Erlangen and Marburg.
On the other hand, there are rings of arms whose catchment area includes several cities. This can happen if there are few connections in one or more nearby university locations, so that there are not enough counterparts to choose from. This occurs, for example, at universities that were newly founded in the 1970s or in the new federal states.
