Wickerschwihr (German Wickerschweier ) is a French commune with 732 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Colmar-Ribeauvillé , to the canton of Colmar-2 .

The municipality of Wickerschwihr is located seven kilometers northeast of Colmar .

history

The area around Wickerschwihr was settled very early. Finds from today's municipal area are shown in the Unterlinden Museum in Colmar. The oldest objects are assigned to the time around the year 450.

The now independent municipality was created in 1837 when it separated from the municipality of Holtzwihr .

From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Wickerschwihr belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the district of Colmar in the district of Upper Alsace .

On June 8, 1940, the village population had to be evacuated by the invasion of German troops. Wickerschwihr was liberated on January 27, 1945.
