geography
The county is just south of central Illinois on the left bank of the Sangamon River . It has an area of 1854 square kilometers, of which 17 square kilometers are water. The following neighboring counties border Christian County:

history
On February 15, 1839, parts of Sangamon, Montgomery, and Shelby Counties formed Dane County. It was after the Congress Member Nathan Dane from Massachusetts named. On March 2, 1840, it was renamed Christian County. This name was chosen because most of the settlers were from Christian County , Kentucky . In 1900 the county already had 32,700 residents.
