history
Hamilton County was formed on February 8, 1821 from the western part of White County. It was named after Alexander Hamilton , a politician and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States , a hero of the American Revolutionary War and the United States' first Secretary of the Treasury.
The county government's first official meeting was held on June 18, 1821 at the home of William Wilson, a judge on the Illinois Supreme Court. The second on November 19th of the same year. The first steam powered mill was built in 1850.
