About this picture

Insheim ( Palatinate. Isem ) is a municipality in the southern Weinstrasse district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Herxheim Association .

geography

Insheim is located in the southern Palatinate . Neighboring communities are - clockwise - Landau in der Pfalz , Herxheim near Landau / Pfalz , Erlenbach near Kandel , Steinweiler , Rohrbach (Pfalz) and Impflingen .

history

During excavation work for a construction road in the Ober den Baumgärten construction area , two human skeletons came to light on April 24, 2012. A total of ten graves were discovered during the inspection of the site. Since, according to the bone structure, it is likely to be very old bones, the General Directorate for Cultural Heritage , Speyer was informed, whose excavation manager on site discovered that an early medieval burial ground from the 7th century had just been discovered. Previously, excavations carried out between 2000 and 2002 had already confirmed settlement in the Insheim district before it was first mentioned in a document.

This took place in the year 782 through a donation of land to the Lorsch monastery . There is talk of Ansilheim , which means something like "settlement". One of the oldest fortified houses was the Zehnthaus (currently privately owned). Later in the 13th century the place was owned by the Klingenmünster monastery .

After the peace treaty of Luneville on February 9, 1801 between France and Austria, the place was added to France. It was not until 1816 that the Kingdom of Bavaria came about .

  • Zeppelinplatz with Zeppelin Fountain - The square was built in 2000. The previously undeveloped property was previously used as a storage area. Today the Zeppelinplatz is a fairground for events in the village, such as the Christmas market. The place was also accepted by the population as a communication meeting place.
  • City Hall - The Insheim City Hall was renovated from 2003 to 2005 and now houses a council chamber and mayor's office as well as a multi-room that can be booked for groups of up to 30 people. The attic and the listed attic with the Insheimer bell were also repaired.
  • Churches - The generously equipped churches are located in the center of the village. The churchyard with graves from the early 19th century is by the Protestant church. The community home, which can accommodate around 50 people, is located on the grounds of the Catholic Church.
