Ubisoft is a French publisher of computer games based in Montreuil . The company was founded in 1986 by the Guillemot brothers. Since its inception, Ubisoft has risen to become one of the largest publishers in the industry and maintains most of the in-house development capacity with over 14,000 employees in over 40 locations.

Ubisoft's locations are made up of developer studios they founded themselves, such as Ubisoft Montreal or Ubisoft Montpellier , and acquired studios such as Massive Entertainment or Blue Byte . Often these studios work together on larger Ubisoft projects, such as Assassin's Creed Unity in 2014, on which ten studios worked.

North America

Ubisoft Montréal

With over 3,200 employees, Ubisoft Montréal is Ubisoft's largest in-house development studio and the largest development studio in the world. Founded in 1997 in Montreal , Québec , the studio started out with just 50 employees. 25 employees came from Ubisoft headquarters in France, the rest were newly hired developers. Yannis Mallat is the studio's managing director. Originally, the studio focused on licensed family-friendly computer games until the team achieved major sales successes with titles for two of the company's own brands, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell .

After this success, the studio shifted its focus to developing AAA stocks. The company developed Far Cry 2 , as well as its successor , has been involved in the Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six series since the Vegas series and has become the lead development studio behind Ubisoft's most successful franchise, Assassin's Creed , since its invention. The studio also created new brands, such as Watch Dogs and For Honor .

Red Storm Entertainment

Red Storm Entertainment was founded in Cary, North Carolina in 1996 by novelist Tom Clancy , CEO Steve Reid and 17 employees . The company released its first tactical shooter Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six in 1998 itself. In 2000, Ubisoft took over the studio. After the takeover, Red Storm continued working on tactical shooters and developed both Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon in 2001 and its successor Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 2 in 2004. Red Storm cooperated with other Ubisoft on future Ghost Recon titles Studios and was also involved in the development of several Far Cry games. Red Storm was the first Ubisoft studio to bring VR projects onto the market (2016: Werewolves Within , 2017 Star Trek: Bridge Crew ).

Ubisoft Québec

Ubisoft Québec was founded in 2005 by Ubisoft in Québec City , Québec . The studio was set up to support Ubisoft's main studios, and it also participated in the development of downloadable content for the Assassin's Creed series, such as Tyranny of King Washington for Assassin's Creed III and Freedom Cry for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag . On November 3, 2010, Ubisoft announced that it had acquired Longtail Studios Quebec, a studio owned by New York City-based Longtail Studios founded in 2003 by Ubisoft co-founder Gérard Guillemot. As a result, 48 employees at the studio were relocated to the existing Ubisoft Québec operations. The head of the division, Andreas Mollman, resigned and several employees were laid off. The studio worked on Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth , a Kinect title released in 2012, and became the lead developer of Assassin's Creed: Syndicate in 2015, replacing the Montreal studio. It was the first time that the Quebec-based studio took the lead in developing a production run. The studio has 500 employees.

Hybrid Technologies

Hybrid Technologies in Piedmont, Québec, is a technology company founded in 1991. Its main role is to create visual effects for films and television shows that have contributed to films such as Jurassic World and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The company was acquired by Ubisoft in 2008. The company operates a second office in Montreal, Quebec, in partnership with Ubisoft Montreal , which opened in February 2016.

Ubisoft San Francisco

Ubisoft San Francisco was founded in 2009 at Ubisoft's North American headquarters in San Francisco, California. The studio is the main developer of the Rocksmith series. South Park: The Fractured But Whole , an RPG sequel set in the South Park universe , developed it in collaboration with Matt Stone and Trey Parker .

Ubisoft Toronto

Ubisoft Toronto was founded by Ubisoft in May 2010 in Toronto , Ontario . The studio opening is due to the success of the Montreal studio, which Ubisoft encouraged to continue its expansion in Canada. The Toronto team consists mostly of people from the Montreal studio who worked on Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction . The studio then took on the lead role in the development of the Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell series of games as then-studio boss Jade Raymond thought it was Ubisoft's most famous franchise and could help the studio expand and recruit. Her debut game, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist , received critical acclaim after its release. The studio continued to contribute to other Ubisoft projects, including Far Cry 4 and Assassin's Creed Unity , and announced a completely new game concept for Ubisoft: Starlink: Battle for Atlas ; first shown at E3 2017. Raymond left the studio and founded EA Motive in 2015. The studio is working on Starlink: Battle for Atlas .

Ubisoft Halifax

Ubisoft Halifax (formerly Longtail Studios Halifax) is based in Halifax , Nova Scotia , and is best known for co-developing the Rocksmith series. The company was founded in 2009 as the studio of New York's Longtail Studios, founded in 2003 by Ubisoft co-founder Gérard Guillemot. In July 2009, Longtail Studios offered 23 employees in Charlottetown , Prince Edward Island (PEI) the opportunity to move into their new Halifax studio. Allan Campbell, PEI's Minister of Innovation, welcomed this move and offered Longtail Studios subsidies and tax breaks to keep the jobs in PEI going.

In August 2013, Longtail Studios Halifax joined the Entertainment Software Association of Canada. At that time the studio employed 45 people. On October 13, 2015, Ubisoft acquired Longtail Studios Halifax and employed over 30 people at the time, with the company being renamed Ubisoft Halifax. With the acquisition, Ubisoft planned to expand its mobile game business in Canada. As of 2018, Ubisoft Halifax has 50 employees.

Ubisoft Saguenay

Ubisoft Saguenay, in Chicoutimi , Québec , was announced in September 2017 and opened in February 2018 with 20 employees under the direction of Jimmy Boulianne. The studio is used to support online and connectivity components for Ubisoft's games.

Ubisoft Winnipeg

On April 6, 2018 Ubisoft announced that 35 million CAD in the Canadian province of Manitoba to invest in order to create 100 jobs within five years and a studio in Winnipeg to open. Ubisoft Winnipeg will work on Ubisoft's open world franchises.

Blue Mammoth Games

Blue Mammoth Games, based in Atlanta, Georgia, was founded in 2009 by Lincoln Hamilton and Matt Woomer. In October 2012, Xaviant, another Atlanta-based developer, acquired a 50% stake in the company. In November 2017, Blue Mammoth announced that it was opening a new studio in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, to hire 25 people. The studio opened in January 2018. Blue Mammoth was acquired by Ubisoft on March 1, 2018. The company's main product is Brawlhalla .

Europe

Ubisoft Paris

Ubisoft Paris was founded in 1992 in Montreuil , France, and was Ubisoft's first own studio. Ubisoft Paris worked on several early Rayman games and its spin-off, Raving Rabbids . It became the main developer of the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon series and the Just Dance series , one of the most successful rhythm games on the market. The studio's latest work was Just Dance 2019 .

Ubisoft Paris Mobile

Ubisoft Paris Mobile was founded in 2013 and has always worked with Ubisoft Paris in Montreuil, France. The studio worked on the mobile game Assassin's Creed: Pirates .

Ubisoft Romania

Ubisoft Romania in Bucharest , Romania , was the first in-house studio to be established outside of France in 1992. The main goal of the company, which had six members when it was founded, was to port Ubisoft's games to PCs. It also assisted other studios in developing the multiplayer mode for Assassin's Creed , Assassin's Creed Rogue , Just Dance and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier . A dedicated team in Craiova was founded in September 2008 with twelve employees. In December 2008, 126 employees came to the two studios (75 in Bucharest and 51 in Craiova), the total number of employees was around 770.

Ubisoft Montpellier

Ubisoft Montpellier, formerly Ubi Pictures, was founded in 1994 as one of the Ubisoft graphics departments in Castelnau-le-Lez , France. The studio has released several successful games under the direction of Michel Ancel , including Rayman and Beyond Good & Evil . The company also worked on several licensed titles, including The Adventures of Tintin and Peter Jackson's King Kong , and worked with Éric Chahi on From Dust. The studio also developed the UbiArt Framework Engine, which is used in titles such as Rayman Origins , Rayman Legends, and Valiant Hearts . The company is working on Beyond Good and Evil 2 and Space Junkies .

1492 studio

1492 Studio was founded in 2014 by Claire and Thibaud Zamora in Vailhauquès , France and was acquired by Ubisoft in February 2018. The studio developed Is it Love? , a free episodic mobile game.

Ubisoft Annecy

Ubisoft Annecy was founded in 1996 in Annecy , France, and their first game was Rayman 2: The Great Escape for the PlayStation 2 . Annecy developed the multiplayer part of many Ubisoft games, including the Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell series and the Assassin's Creed series. The team's early focus was on racing games until the focus shifted to developing casual games like Your Shape for Nintendo's Wii . The Barcelona studio also served as a support studio, working on titles such as Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege and Raving Rabbids . The studio also worked with Red Storm Entertainment on Star Trek: Bridge Crew .

Ubisoft Barcelona Mobile

Ubisoft Barcelona Mobile, based in Barcelona , Spain, was founded as Microjocs Mobile in 2002 and became part of Digital Chocolate in August 2007 . The studio was sold to Ubisoft in September 2013 and then renamed Ubisoft Barcelona Mobile. Ubisoft Barcelona Mobile's productions include Galaxy Life and Might & Magic: Elemental Guardians .

Blue byte

Blue Byte was founded in 1988 in Düsseldorf, Germany. The company achieved early success with strategy titles such as The Settlers and Battle Isle . Blue Byte was acquired by Ubisoft in 2001 and continues to work on The Settlers franchise. Blue Byte also helped port games such as porting For Honor to PC . The studio has over 300 employees.

Ubisoft Sofia

Ubisoft Sofia was founded in 2006 in Sofia , Bulgaria . It had developed titles for portable consoles . The studio led the development of Assassin's Creed III: Liberation for the PlayStation Vita and Assassin's Creed Rogue for home consoles . The studio employs more than 160 people.

Ubisoft Belgrade

Founded in November 2016, Ubisoft Belgrade in Belgrade , Serbia , has worked on Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands Player-Versus-Player component, Steep: Road to the Olympics and The Crew 2, and is developing post-launch content for Wildlands .

Massive Entertainment was founded in 1997 in Malmö , Sweden . Massive, formerly a subsidiary of Vivendi Universal Games , has mainly focused on developing real-time strategy games such as Ground Control and World in Conflict . It was acquired by Ubisoft in March 2008. After the acquisition, Massive Entertainment worked on Uplay , Ubisoft's digital distribution platform , and developed Just Dance Now . The company also developed the Snowdrop engine and used it in Tom Clancy's The Division and its sequel, The Division 2 , as well as in an upcoming video game based on the Avatar film series.

Ketchapp

Ketchapp was founded in 2014 in Paris , France , by the brothers Michel and Antoine Morcos and specializes in the publication of games for the mobile games market. The company was acquired by Ubisoft in 2016.

Ubisoft Kiev

Ubisoft Kiev was founded in 2008 in Kiev , Ukraine . The studio's focus is porting Ubisoft games to PCs, and the studio has also worked on titles like Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Future Soldier and Watch Dogs 2 . Nadeo was founded in Paris , France in 2000 and enjoyed success with the racing game franchise TrackMania . The team focused on allowing players to create user-generated content and developed a network called ManiaPlanet . All the games developed by Nadeo since it acquired Ubisoft in 2009 have been racing games , with the exception of ShootMania Storm , which is a first-person shooter . Nadeo's most recent title is TrackMania Turbo .

RedLynx

RedLynx was founded in Helsinki, Finland in 2000 and focuses on developing racing games with the Trials series. The company also produced the interactive game show Super RTL Fun Night in collaboration with Super RTL and MTV3 . While the studio was developing Trials Evolution , it was acquired by Ubisoft in November 2011. After the takeover of Ubisoft, the company continued to work on new Trials parts such as Trials Fusion from 2014, Trials of the Blood Dragon from 2016 and Trials Rising from 2019. The studio has 145 employees.

Owlient

Owlient is a video game studio founded in Paris , France in 2005 . The company focuses on the development of free-to-play titles, the most successful of which is Howrse . Owlient was acquired by Ubisoft in 2011.

Future Games of London

Future Games of London was founded in 2009 in London, England. The studio released Hungry Shark before acquiring Ubisoft in October 2013. The studio continues to work on new parts of the Hungry Shark series.

Ivory Tower

Ivory Tower was founded in Lyon , France in September 2007 by former Eden Games employees who had worked on Test Drive Unlimited . After releasing their first game, The Crew , the company was acquired by Ubisoft in October 2015. Ivory Tower also developed a sequel to the game, The Crew 2 , which was released in 2018.

Ubisoft Leamington

Ubisoft Leamington, formerly FreeStyleGames , was founded in Leamington Spa , England in 2002 by six industry veterans who previously worked at Codemasters and Rare . The studio worked on popular music games like DJ Hero and Sing Party while owned by Activision . After the commercial failure of Guitar Hero Live , Activision sold the studio to Ubisoft. The studio employs 50 people and works closely with Ubisoft Reflections.

Ubisoft Bordeaux

Ubisoft Bordeaux was founded in Bordeaux , France, in September 2017 . It serves as a support studio and works with the studios of Annecy , Paris and Montpellier on their future titles. The studio is directed by Julien Mayeux. The studio has more than 100 employees.

Ubisoft Stockholm

Ubisoft Stockholm was founded in Stockholm , Sweden in 2017 . Under the direction of Patrick Bach, the studio will collaborate with Massive Entertainment on the upcoming Avatar video game.

Ubisoft Berlin

Ubisoft Berlin opened in Berlin , Germany in early 2018 with a focus on collaborating with other studios. The company is to develop games in the Far Cry franchise.

Ubisoft Odesa

Ubisoft Shanghai

Ubisoft Shanghai was founded in 1996 in Shanghai , People's Republic of China , and has developed into one of the largest development studios in China. The studio has worked as the support team for many of Ubisoft's projects, such as: B. for the Far Cry franchise. The studio mainly works on wildlife animation and artificial intelligence.

Ubisoft Singapore

Ubisoft Singapore was founded in 2008 as Ubisoft's first own studio in Southeast Asia , which is located in the Fusionopolis complex in Singapore . After working as a support studio on games like Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and Assassin's Creed II , the company worked on the Assassin's Creed III maritime campaign before expanding it significantly with Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and Assassin's Creed Rogue . The company is also responsible for producing the AAA multiplayer online shooter Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Phantoms , which was released in 2014 and shut down in December 2016. After Ghost Recon Phantoms ended , the studio's creative director Justin Farren announced their new IP called Skull & Bones , which the studio is developing , at Ubisoft's E3 2017 press conference . Ubisoft Chengdu

Ubisoft Chengdu in 2008 in Chengdu as the second studio of Ubisoft in China founded. The studio also served as a support studio, working on games like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game and provided the Chinese localization for games like Might & Magic: Duel of Champions . Ubisoft Chengdu led the development of Monkey King Escape , a mobile phone title, and the casual games Scrabble (2013), Uno (2017) and Wheel of Fortune . The studio has over 200 employees.

Ubisoft Abu Dhabi

Ubisoft Abu Dhabi was founded in 2011 in Abu Dhabi , United Arab Emirates , with the aim of promoting the video game industry in the country. The studio focuses on working on mobile titles such as the CSI series and is working on Growtopia , a game that Ubisoft acquired in 2017. The studio has over 50 employees.

Ubisoft Philippines

Ubisoft Philippines was founded in 2016 as the first major game studio in the Philippines . The studio is located on the De La Salle University campus in Santa Rosa , Laguna. The studio has 100 employees.

Ubisoft Mumbai

Ubisoft Mumbai was established in June 2018 Mumbai founded and continues to Ubisoft Pune's second studio in India . It works with Ubisoft Pune and local universities.

Former studios

Related designs

Related Designs Software GmbH was based in Mainz , Germany. The company was founded in 1995 by Thomas Pottkämper, Burkhard Ratheise, Thomas Stein and Jens Vielhaben in Nackenheim . On behalf of Sunflowers, the studio took over the development of Max Design's Anno building strategy series . In return, Sunflowers acquired a 30% stake in the studio. With the takeover of Sunflowers on April 11, 2007, the company shares and the trademark rights to Anno were transferred to Ubisoft. In May 2008 they employed 50 people. On April 11, 2013, Ubisoft acquired the remaining 70% and took full control of Related Designs. From then on, the company developed projects in collaboration with Blue Byte. On June 18, 2014, the two studios were merged and have been a branch of Blue Byte ever since.

Sunflowers Interactive

Sunflowers Interactive Entertainment Software GmbH was founded in 1993 by Adi Boiko and Wilhelm Hamrozi and was based in Heusenstamm, Germany. The company was best known for developing and releasing the Anno series. With the dissolution of the internal development team in 2002, the company shifted its focus to the publishing business for external developer studios. The company had minority stakes in the developer studios of the game development combine and related designs. On April 11, 2007, Ubisoft announced the acquisition of Sunflowers Interactive. This also included participation in related designs and the rights to the Anno series. The sales area was merged with the existing structures of Ubisoft.

Ubisoft Sao Paulo

Ubisoft Sao Paulo was based in Sao Paulo , Brazil . The founding of the studio was announced on June 24, 2008, with a planned opening with 20 employees at the end of July 2008, which aims to employ around 200 people in total after a four-year service life. Studio manager Bertrand Chaverot said early on that Ubisoft was considering opening more studios in Rio de Janeiro and Florianópolis . On January 20, 2009, it was announced that Ubisoft had acquired the Porto Alegre- based Southlogic Studios, which merged with Ubisoft Sao Paulo. On September 29, 2010, Ubisoft reported that due to declining market interest in Nintendo DS games, operations in Brazil were being reassessed and that Ubisoft Sao Paulo’s development facilities would be reduced by the end of the year.

Ubisoft Casablanca

Ubisoft Casablanca opened in Casablanca , Morocco , in April 1998 . The studio's first production was the Nintendo 64 version of Donald Duck: Goin 'Quackers. Casablanca supported the development of various games for portable platforms . In June 2007, Ubisoft announced that they would be adding 150 people to the studio with government grants. Between 2008 and 2010, the studio also operated a campus that trained 300 game development graduates. Ubisoft Casablanca closed on June 13, 2016 following a market change. The studio's position was inconsistent with Ubisoft's future plans. The studio previously employed 48 people and was the oldest video game studio in North Africa. Companies founded by former Ubisoft Casablanca employees include developers TheWallGames founded by Yassine Arif , Rym Games by Imad Kharijah and Othman El Bahraoui, and Palm Grove Software by Khalil Arafan.

Ubisoft Zurich

Ubisoft Zurich began hiring an unannounced free-to-play game in August 2011. The company was founded by Yann Le Tensorer, who became its managing director, in Thalwil , a suburb of Zurich , Switzerland . In an interview with the Swiss magazine 20 Minuten , Le Tensorer stated that Ubisoft Zurich would develop games with a focus on online gameplay. He also stated that the company plans to hire 20 people first and later expand the studio as the Swiss game development scene grows, as is the case with Ubisoft Montreal. However, in October 2013, Ubisoft announced that Ubisoft Zurich would be closed until the end of the month, citing the cancellation of the studio's only development project. 16 people were laid off who were offered all positions in other Ubisoft studios.

Wolfpack Studios

Wolfpack Studios Inc. was founded in Round Rock , Texas in 1999 by J. Todd Coleman, along with his school friend James Nance and his roommate Josef Hall. Ubisoft announced on March 1, 2004 that it had acquired Wolfpack Studios, which at the time had between 20 and 25 employees, at an undisclosed price. All three founders left the company after the purchase, from which Coleman and Hall later joined KingsIsle Entertainment . On April 1, 2006, Ubisoft announced that it would close on May 15, 2006. Wolfpack Studios' only product was Shadowbane , which was released in March 2003. Several former members of Wolfpack Studios founded a successor, the Stray Bullet Games, in the same offices on June 1, 2006 .
