Monestier is a central French town and municipality ( commune ) with 282 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Allier department in the north of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region (before 2016 Auvergne ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Vichy and the canton of Gannat (until 2015 Chantelle ).

Monestier is located in the Bourbonnais landscape about 31 kilometers northwest of Vichy . Monestier is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Voussac in the north, Fleuriel in the east and northeast, Deneuille-lès-Chantelle in the east, Chantelle in the southeast, Chezelle in the south, Bellenaves in the south and southwest, Chirat-l'Église in the west and Target in the west and Northwest.
The A71 autoroute runs through the municipality .
