- February 21 : The world premiere of the Opéra-comique La poupée de Nuremberg (The Nuremberg Doll) by Adolphe Adam takes place at the Opéra-Comique in Paris. The libretto is by Adolphe de Leuven and Arthur de Beauplan. In Germany it can be seen for the first time in the translation by Ernst Pasqué on November 26th in Berlin.
- March 6 : The opera The Sicilian Bride of Michael William Balfe is at Theater Royal Drury Lane premiered in London.
- March 19 : The world premiere of the opera Le farfadet by Adolphe Adam takes place at the Opéra-Comique in Paris.
