The FK Alania Wladikawkas ( Russian Футбольный клуб Алания Владикавказ ) is a Russian football club from Vladikavkaz , the capital of the Republic of North Ossetia . The first team currently plays in the 2nd division , the third highest division in Russia.

history

The club had several different names. These were Spartak Ordzhonikidze (1937-1990), Spartak Wladikawkas (1990-1994 and 2006), Alania Wladikawkas (1997-2003 and 2006), Spartak-Alania Wladikawkas (1995-1996 and 2003-2006).

The team from North Ossetia was one of the founding members of the newly created Russian Supreme League after the collapse of the Soviet Union . The club played its most successful season in 1995 when it won the Russian championship. In 1992 and 1996 a second place could be achieved. But after coach Valeri Gassajew and several players left the club, the successes could not be continued. After the 2005 season , the club even rose from the Russian elite class.

On February 14, 2006 Alania Wladikawkas and Lokomotive Tschita were excluded from the league operations of the second-class 1st Russian division . They did not get a new license because of legal irregularities. On February 22nd, the League Association decided to replace the two clubs in the 1st division with Lada Tolyatti and Maschuk-KMW Pjatigorsk , the promoted teams from the 2nd division. The Russian Football Association , however, did not agree to the withdrawal of the license and decided on February 28th to give Alania and Lokomotiv in the 1st division another opportunity to meet the license requirements. On March 6th, the association decided to increase the 1st division from 22 to 24 teams and to let all 4 clubs play during the season. On March 20th, Alania and Lokomotiv were again excluded from the 1st Division and the forced transfer to the 2nd Division. The decision was only made 5 days before the start of the season.

The club was reorganized, renamed itself Spartak Wladikawkas and was assigned to the 2nd Division South on April 4th. In 2006 the club reached the league championship in the 2nd division (Season South) and thus rose again to the 1st division. Thereupon the association renamed itself again in Alania. Since FK Moscow withdrew voluntarily from the Premjer League , Alania was included in the Premjer League as the third-placed player in the 1st football division in 2009 . But in 2010 Alania had to go back to the second division. In 2010, the team failed only in the semi-finals of the Russian Cup after a 3-0 away defeat against the promoted team FK Sibir Novosibirsk . In 2011 Alania Wladikawkas managed the curious feat of qualifying for the Europa League by moving into the Russian Cup final without scoring a single goal. Three games ended 0-0 and the team prevailed on penalties , another opponent, the previously disbanded team of Saturn Ramenskoye , did not play. Only in the final, which was lost 1: 2 against CSKA Moscow , who had already qualified for the Champions League , the Brazilian Neco scored the first cup goal for Alania.

In 2012 Alania Wladikawkas succeeded in returning to the Premjer League, from which the team as bottom of the table in 2012/13 had to relegate immediately. After the association went bankrupt at the end of January 2014, it was dissolved on February 10, 2014 and struck from the register of associations. For the 2014/2015 season, the reserve was renamed from FK Alania-d Wladikawkas to FK Alania Wladikawkas and made the first team. Since then, the team has played in the 2nd division, the third professional division in Russia.
