City and intercity bus networks in France
The city and intercity bus networks in France care in rural areas of France for the transport service in the public transport (LPT) . The legal basis is the Loi d'orientation des transports intérieurs (LOTI) ( German Inland Transport Framework Act ). It was issued in 1982 and last amended in 2014.
The amalgamation of local transport companies as a mixed-economy company that resulted from this law was the first state intervention in the structures of the transport companies in France since 1938, when the Société nationale des chemins de fer français (SNCF) was founded. These companies belong to the non-profit making public institutions.
In 96 of the 101 French départements , a steering committee was founded to decide on the operation of the places and the concessions of the transport companies. It is subordinate to the respective departmental council (conseil départemental). In the overseas departments there is only one such facility in La Réunion . Funding is provided through a key both from the budget of the individual municipalities and the respective department. These companies are in control of networking with other modes of transport, the timetable, the tariff structure and the selection of subcontractors. The success can be seen in the traffic density, the number of lines and the number of passengers carried, but this key information is not published in all departments in an effective manner, so the following table is incomplete.
