The Hermannswasser , the Elmer Wasser , the Kesbach , the Struther Wasser , the Arzbach and the Kressenwasser flow through the district of Rückers .
There are four large headwaters in the district that are of great importance for the water supply of the communities of Flieden and Kalbach.
These are the sources in the lime kiln for the water supply in Flieden, the sources below the stone chamber and in the Hermannswinkel for the water supply in Rückers and the springs in Tiefwieschen below the fly cap for the water supply in the Kalbach community.
history
Megalithic graves that were found at the foot of the “stone chamber” bear testimony to the fact that people lived here in prehistoric times. The establishment of the town of Rückers is likely to have occurred around the time of Charlemagne .
The history of Rückers was first mentioned around 1160. At that time, Prince Abbot Marquard I gave the monks in Neuenberg a piece of land in Rückers. The place is then called "Rutchares" or the homestead of the "Hruodger". The historical researcher Johann Friedrich Schannat explains the name from its Old High German components: hruod = fame and ger = spear, summarized = " the glorious spear ".
According to Schannat, this should mean a person who distinguished himself as a glorious spear fighter and who belonged to Rücker at that time. This also corresponds to the general tradition, according to which the owner once lived on the site of today's “Hofbauer” property. All around, semi-free peasants had settled, who were called " backsassers ". Today's house names that end with -hanse were derived from this word .
The next historical mention we find in 1355. Here the place is already referred to as "Rückhart". At that time, Petze von Bienbach owned the Vogtei in Rückers. However, due to old donations, the convent of the Neuenberg monastery claimed certain rights.
Territorial reform
The autonomous community "Rückers Kr. Fulda" with their districts Keutzelbuch and Leimenhof was the municipal reform in Hesse on August 1, 1972 by virtue of state law in the greater community Flieden incorporated .

Church history
The Rückers chapel is mentioned for the first time in 1451 . The cardinals Georgius , Astorgius , Prosper , Petrus and Cusa granted "the Marienkapelle in Rückers, a branch church of the parish Flieden in the Mainz diocese " in a certificate rich indulgences . Already at this time the church in Rückers was known as a pilgrimage and grace chapel .
The Chapel of Grace, built in 1621, was very richly furnished. An organ was procured, which was probably only a small instrument, and a description from 1656 lists three other bells in addition to the community bell.
Rückers was the only place of pilgrimage to Mary in the Fulda Monastery . Rückers reached its peak in its importance as a place of pilgrimage in the 18th century. Due to the turmoil of the Napoleonic wars and the subsequent reorganization of Germany, the abbey of Fulda became part of the Electorate of Kassel. The new sovereign Prince of Orange banned all pilgrimages and visits to the Rückers church by an edict in 1802. So the flow of pilgrims came to an abrupt end.
With a deed dated November 14, 1872, the Fulda Bishop Christoph Florentius elevated the local chaplaincy, founded in 1844, to an independent parish of Rückers.
The place suffered a particularly tragic stroke of fate on May 12, 1890. At that time, both the old pilgrimage church and a large part of the place were destroyed by flames.
On May 26, 1891, the foundation stone for the parish church to be rebuilt was laid and solemnly consecrated. After a construction period of around three years, the new church, built according to the plans of Paderborn cathedral builder Arnold Güldenpfennig , was ceremoniously consecrated on September 12, 1893 by Bishop Joseph Weyland of Fulda .
After a construction period of four months, the Mariengrotto was inaugurated on September 28, 1958 .
