The road branches off in Miercurea-Ciuc (Szeklerburg) to the northeast from Drum național 12 and crosses the Eastern Carpathians . From Lunca de Jos it follows the course of the Trotuş in a south-easterly direction via Comăneşti , where the Drum național 2G joins, and Târgu Ocna , where the Drum național 12B branches off to the south-west. The road continues to Oneşti , where it meets and ends at Drum național 11 (also European route 574 ).
The length of the road is around 113 kilometers.
