Mbaye Diagne (born October 28, 1991 in Dakar ) is a Senegalese football player . Diagne has been under contract with the Turkish first division club Galatasaray Istanbul since January 2019 and is a national player for the Senegalese national soccer team .
Club career
Diagne played for ASD Brandizzo during his youth in Italy . In 2012, fourth division AC Bra signed him. For Bra, the Senegalese scored 23 goals in 29 league games and was taken over by Juventus Turin in the summer of 2013 and on loan to AC Ajaccio . Further loans to Lierse SK , al Shabab and KVC Westerlo followed .
He did not play a competitive game for Juventus Turin and was sold to Újpest Budapest in Hungary in 2015 . Here the striker scored eleven goals in 14 league games. On February 6, 2016, Diagne moved to Tianjin Teda . There he played for two years and then moved to Kasımpaşa Istanbul .
On the last day of the 2018/19 winter transfer period, Diagne moved to Galatasaray Istanbul . The yellow-reds paid Kasımpaşa Istanbul a transfer fee of 10 million euros. Diagne became Turkish champions and cup winners with Galatasaray and set a new record with 30 league goals in the Süper Lig for a foreigner who has scored the most goals in a Süper Lig season and was crowned top scorer.
Shortly before the end of the summer transfer period, Diagne was loaned to Club Bruges . The Belgian club paid a loan fee of 3.35 million euros, and Club Bruges also has a purchase option of 13 million euros, which is valid until June 30, 2020.
In the Champion League game against Paris St. Germain on November 6, 2019, he shot a penalty in the 76th minute contrary to the tactical guidelines of the coach and missed it. Club Brugge lost this game 0-1. As a result, he was fined by the club and no longer included in the matchday squad until the 2019/20 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In consultation with Galatasaray Istanbul, Diagne should look for a new club during the winter break. However, he returned to Bruges two weeks after the agreed date with no result. When the loan expires, he will be part of the Galatasaray Istanbul squad again.
National team
Diagne played his first international match for Senegal on September 9, 2018 against Madagascar . In May 2019 he was appointed to the Senegalese squad for the Africa Cup of Nations 2019 by national coach Aliou Cissé . There he was used in a group game and from the last sixteen to the final.
