The continuous decline in the number of inhabitants since the middle of the 19th century is essentially due to the mechanization of agriculture and the associated loss of jobs. Because of the proximity to the city of Valence , the population has increased slightly since the 1980s.
economy
Traditionally, the population lived from agriculture, which also included viticulture, and a little cattle breeding. Today many work in the smaller companies on the banks of the Rhône; others go to work in Valence. The wine produced in the municipality is marketed under the appellations Ardèche , Comtés Rhodaniens , Côtes du Rhône etc. Tourism in the form of renting holiday homes ( gîtes ) also plays an important role in the local economy.
history
In ancient times the place belonged to the settlement area of the Helvier .
The approx. 300 m high St-Joseph chapel is the oldest testimony to the medieval history of the place which was once much higher up.
