About this picture

Pommern an der Mosel is a municipality in the Cochem-Zell district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It has been a member of the Cochem community since July 1, 2014 .

history

The first settlements on the Martberg are likely around the 4th and 1st centuries BC. Have taken place. Around 500 BC The Treveri , a tribe of the Celts, settled on the Martberg. The place is as Ponieries villa for the first time in 936 in a charter of Otto I mentioned. The Himmerod Abbey was the largest landowner in town from 1264. The archbishop's castle house was named around 1414. From 1794 Pomerania was under French rule, the Himmerod monastery was dissolved in 1802. In 1815 the place was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Little is known about the origins of Pomerania Castle, but in 1878 the historic building of the Herren von der Leyen had to give way to the construction of the Moselle Railway. Since 1946 the place has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

Coat of arms of Pomerania
Blazon : "Divided diagonally on the left, in front a diagonal red rafter beam in silver, accompaniedby red shingles , behind in red two interlocking golden rings diagonallyone above the other."
Justification of the coat of arms: The rafter beam and the shingles are borrowed from the coat of arms of "Hans von Pumere", the year 1368, after a tapestry in Eltz Castle . The two rings are the symbol of Himmerod Abbey, which had the largest property in the village. The first vineyard was given to her in 1234 by Arnold von Braunshorn . In the 18th century, the abbey still had full construction obligations for the church, since it occupied the entire tithe, and in 1786 it built a new early classicist building. Today's rectory, the former "Himmeroder Hof", is considered the "most beautiful rectory in the Trier diocese".
