The Scottish Championship was played for the seventh time in 2019/20 as the second highest division of men's football in Scotland . It was also the 114th edition of a second division football within the Scottish Football League . The league was officially played as the Ladbrokes Scottish Championship . The league followed the first-class Premiership and was above League One and Two as one of the four professional leagues within the Scottish Football League. The season was directed and hosted by the Scottish Football Association. The season started on August 3, 2019 and was originally supposed to end on May 2, 2020.
In the 2019/20 season, ten clubs were to compete against each other on a total of 36 match days. Each team should play twice at home and twice against every other team. Relegated from last year's Premiership came FC Dundee in the Championship, as newly promoted from League One to the FC Arbroath .
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the season was canceled prematurely in April 2020.
Dundee United was declared champions and promoted to the first division. The promotion and relegation relegation was canceled. The last-placed Partick Thistle was declared relegated.
