A Cyriakus patrozinium was first found north of the Alps around the year 847 in Worms- Neuhausen . The reason for the later spread to Saxony is unknown. A first patronage there is documented for the year 946 in Geseke , followed by a further expansion in eastern Saxony by the margrave Gero .
