A State Of Trance (Logo)

A State Of Trance (abbreviated ASOT, English " Trance State ") is a weekly radio broadcast with an estimated 38 million listeners and a festival format by Armin van Buuren . In the show, van Buuren presents the latest tracks from trance and progressive trance in a two-hour set.

history

On May 18, 2001, van Buuren went on air with A State Of Trance for the first time, at that time on the Dutch radio station ID&T Radio . This pilot episode was not yet moderated by van Buuren and is referred to as episode 000 in retrospect. Episode 1 followed on June 1, 2001, here van Buuren presents the program for the first time. The moderation was initially in Dutch. 2004, when ID & T Radio (today Slam FM was restructured), van Buuren left the radio station and started the show at the online radio station ETN.FM . Since episode 183 in January 2005 van Buuren has presented the show in English. However, the show could only be heard briefly at ETN.FM, because after just a few weeks he switched to the online radio station Digitally Imported (DI.FM) and the Dutch radio station Fresh FM.

Today the show is broadcast around the globe on 15 radio stations, making it probably the most successful dance radio show in the world. In Germany, "ASOT" can be heard live on Thursday from 8 pm to 10 pm on the sunshine radio station . Since September 2012, new episodes of the show with directly selectable individual tracks have been published on Spotify on Fridays .

Since episode 800 (February 2017), “ASOT” has been broadcast every Thursday from 8 pm to 10 pm from a specially built studio in Amsterdam and is also broadcast live as a video stream on the Internet. The concept is also based on the early days, when in the first hour mainly new songs are presented and interviews carried out, while the second hour is subject to a live mix by Armin. In the second hour, other DJs and producers are often invited for a so-called guest mix.

In addition, several compilations (see Mix-CDs ) as well as an Armada sub-label carry the title A State Of Trance .

Event series

Starting with episode 200, the respective anniversary episodes are particularly highlighted and celebrated with events in a wide variety of locations.

A State Of Trance (from 2005)

ASOT 200, 250, 300 and 350

On June 2, 2005, van Buuren celebrated the 200th edition of the first anniversary episode of A State of Trance . Only van Buuren himself was present as a live act. Since then, the anniversary episode has been celebrated every year. For the 250th broadcast and the fifth birthday of ASOT , van Buuren invited guest DJs for the first time, including MIKE , Jonas Steur , John Askew , Rank 1 and Menno de Jong .

In 2007 the 300th show was celebrated in Den Bosch with over 6000 guests and the DJs Aly & Fila , Sean Tyas , Menno de Jong , Marcel Woods and Markus Schulz . The seven-hour, free event was broadcast live on the radio and on the Internet. Besides Armin van Buuren (the organizer himself) , Aly & Fila are the only DJs who have been playing at ASOT every year since then. In 2008, on the occasion of the 350th edition, a similar event took place in Antwerp's NoXX-CLub.

ASOT 400 (2009)

The 400th broadcast was celebrated from April 16-19, 2009 with a 72-hour live set. During this time, three events took place at the Butan Club in Wuppertal (April 16 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.), at Club Air in Birmingham (April 17 from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.) and at Maassilo in Rotterdam (April 18 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.) O'clock). In the time between the events, older ASOT programs were repeated, or well-known DJs such as Ferry Corsten , Rank 1 or Gareth Emery played one-hour live sets.

ASOT 450 (2010)

After almost nine years, the starting signal for the 450th A State of Trance broadcast was given on April 1, 2010. Toronto kicked off , followed by two events in New York on April 2nd and 3rd. Then on April 9th ​​we went to Europe in Slovakia . The grand finale took place in Wroclaw ( Poland ) with a delay of two weeks because of the plane crash near Smolensk , in which, among other things, the Polish president died. The final could be followed by video stream.

ASOT 500 (2011)

Similarly, the 500th episode of A State Of Trance and the 10th anniversary of the show was celebrated in spring 2011 . The stations were Johannesburg , Miami (during the Ultra Music Festival ), Buenos Aires , Den Bosch and Sydney .

ASOT 550 (2012)

In spring 2012, the 550th episode of A State Of Trance - Invasion - was celebrated. The stations were London , Moscow , Kiev , Los Angeles , Miami and Den Bosch .

ASOT 600 (2013)

In spring 2013 the 600th episode of A State Of Trance - The Expedition - was celebrated. The stations were Madrid , Mexico City , Sao Paulo , Minsk , Sofia , Beirut , Kuala Lumpur , Mumbai , Miami , Guatemala , New York and Den Bosch .

ASOT 650 (2014)

In spring 2014 the 650th episode of A State Of Trance - New Horizons - was celebrated. The stations were Almaty , Yekaterinburg , Utrecht , Santiago de Chile , Buenos Aires , Kuala Lumpur , Jakarta and Miami .

ASOT 700 (2015)

In spring 2015 the 700th episode of A State Of Trance - Festival - was celebrated. The stations were Sydney , Melbourne , Buenos Aires , Miami and Utrecht .

ASOT 750 (2016)

In spring 2016, the 750th episode of A State Of Trance - I'm in A State of Trance - was celebrated. The stations were Toronto , Utrecht and Miami . Paul van Dyk fell off the stage during the festival in Utrecht . The main floor was then closed.

ASOT 800 (2017)

In spring 2017, the 800th episode of A State Of Trance - I Live For That Energy - was celebrated. The stations were Utrecht and Miami .

Tune Of The Year

With the Tune Of The Year (short form TOTY ) the best track of the year is awarded in December. This happens after the listeners of A State Of Trance have voted in a time window of a few weeks, using a countdown in a particularly highlighted episode.
