history
Remains from the Bronze Age (from around 2,000 BC) were found in a cave . In 1820 a fragment of a funeral inscription from the Gallo-Roman culture was discovered .
In the 10th century Aragon belonged to the Abbey of Montolieu, but traces of the landlords of Aragon have been found since the 12th century . Later they owned extensive areas, but they seem to have acquired them as Cathars . Therefore, the owners of their property were expropriated by the Inquisition and received financial compensation. The area was later divided into the Kingdom and Diocese of Carcassonne , but despite the lack of protection from the feudal lords, Catharism remained in the village.
The Huguenots occupied the village in 1575 and 1585 . The Duke of Turenne had since taken it back in 1580.
The village experienced a period of prosperity at the end of the 18th century , when weaving trades determined the supply of the cloth manufacturers from Carcassonne and thus brought additional income to the community.
