Champniers is a commune with 5151 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Charente in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Angoulême and the canton of Gond-Pontouvre .
geography
The municipality is located in the agglomeration around eight kilometers north of Angoulême in the Angoumois natural landscape . The distance to Cognac is around 40 kilometers, to La Rochefoucauld 15 kilometers and to Mansle 18 kilometers. The neighboring municipalities are Anais in the north, Brie in the east, Ruelle-sur-Touvre in the south, Gond-Pontouvre in the south-west, Balzac in the west and Vars in the north-west.
The following hamlets and towns are located in the municipality: Viville, Argence, Vouillac, La Chignolle, Les Rossignols, Les Chauvauds, Denat, Fontenille, Fraîchefond et Chez Surand, Les Cloux, La Simarde, Les Coussauds, Villeneuve and Les Montagnes.
The river Argence , a tributary of the Charente , crosses the municipality.
Transport links
The Route Nationale N2010 leads from Angoulême to Champniers , which initially accompanies the motorway-like N10, then joins it and continues to Poitiers . A large motorway triangle leads to the N141 running north-east on the southern municipal boundary. Even the Airport Angoulême-Cognac is mostly in the municipality of Champniers. The Bordeaux - Paris railway line runs through the western municipality .
