Chavannes is a French municipality with 710 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Drôme in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes (before 2016 Rhône-Alpes ); it belongs to the arrondissement of Valence and the canton of Drôme des collines (until 2015 Saint-Donat-sur-l'Herbasse ).

Chavannes is located about 25 kilometers north-northeast of Valence . Chavannes is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Marsaz in the north and northeast, Clérieux in the east and southeast, Mercurol-Veaunes in the south and southwest and Chantemerle-les-Blés in the west and northwest.
